The Museum of Modern Art houses the collection of the Province of Carinthia, which is expanded annually by new purchases. The current 5000 works include works by Carinthian artists as well as by international representatives of art from the 19th century until the present day, such as Markus Pernhart, Anton Kolig, Franz Wiegele, Herbert Boeckl, Maria Lassnig, Arnulf Rainer, Hans Staudacher, Hans Bischoffshausen, Kiki Kogelnik , Heimo Zobernig, Erwin Wurm, Lawrence Weiner and Richard Tuttle.
At regular intervals, the Museum presents the new purchases, which are selected by an independent jury of experts and financed by the Province together with the gallery subsidy from the Federal Government. Here the focus is on young artists who have some connection with Carinthia, perhaps born or resident here, but who often live in major cities and provide opportunities for international exchanges.
Thus besides promoting the young art scene, we offer an insight into the current international art world.
